BUTTS COUNTY, Ga. -- When kids are out trick-or-treating, one of parents' biggest worries is safety -- but efforts by a Middle Georgia sheriff's office to keep children safe are now at the center of a federal class action lawsuit.
In 2018, Butts County Sheriff Gary Long directed deputies to place "No Trick or Treat" signs in the front yards of over 200 sex offenders registered in Butts County from October 24 - November 2.
The signs, reading "Warning! No Trick-Or-Treat At This Address!!" were meant to caution parents about who lived in the neighborhoods their children were trick-or-treating in.
